Kenosha County authorities are investigating a ‘suspicious’ house and barn fire in the Town of Paris Thursday afternoon.

The fire in the 19400 block of County Road N, east Highway 45, required mutual aid from several departments, including the Kansasville Fire Department and Salem Fire and Rescue, along with agencies east of Interstate 94.

According to Paris Chief Roland Iwen, the front door was open when his department arrived at 5 a.m., noting several pieces of debris, including wood piles.

“The home has been unoccupied, and for sale for quite some time,” he said. “There was smoke coming from the door and was fully involved.”

Following containment, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is collecting evidence, and has the scene cordoned off.

“The Sheriff’s Department is gathering samples of footprints at the scene,” he said. “It is technically considered a crime scene.”

Fire officials also said an accelerant could have been used to set the blaze.

Other responding agencies were from Somers, Bristol, Pleasant Prairie, Racine South Shore and Kenosha.

Additionally, Town of Wheatland provided coverage at the Paris station while firefighters battled the blaze.

Phone calls to the Sheriff’s Department were not returned as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
