The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin gave preliminary approval of a proposed transmission line upgrade in Western Kenosha County at a hearing in Madison Thursday.

Preliminary route approved by the PSC in Madison Thursday for the American Transmission Company’s proposed transmission line.

The company’s proposal, known as Spring Valley-North Lake Geneva Electric Reliability Project, calls for construction of a new 138,000-volt transmission line of about 23 miles.

Upon completion, it will stretch from the existing North Lake Geneva Substation in southern Walworth County to the existing Spring Valley Substation in western Kenosha County.

According to Elise Nelson, Communications and Legislative Director, the PSC voted 3-0 in favor of the blue route, where segment F meets sub-segment FB.

“The final, written order consistent with today’s discussion will be ready for Commission approval in coming weeks,” Nelson said. ” The applicant has indicated it plans to begin construction mid-2017.”

The approval comes following several months of debate and municipal opposition, including the Village of Paddock Lake and the towns of Salem and Wheatland.

The Westosha Report/Twin Lakes Report will issue further updates on this developing story on mykenoshacounty.com
