Authorities advise caution, awareness

About nine bison are reportedly loose near the Village of Paddock Lake, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

In a press release issued Saturday, authorities responded to a farm in the 20300 block of County Road NN in the Town of Paris at 8 a.m., where 17 bison escaped an enclosure after a tree limb damaged a fence.

In conjunction with other agencies, authorities corralled eight bison by 1 p.m., but the Sheriff’s Department is warning residents to be aware of bison still on the loose.

“All citizens are advised to drive cautiously and alertly on area roadways and are strongly urged to stay away from these animals,” the release stated.

Residents have reportedly sighted the loose bison near County Highways EW and K, northeast of the Village of Paddock Lake.

Assisting agencies were the Department of Natural Resources, the owner of the animals, Claws and Paws employees, other farmers and local veterinarians.

A 4 p.m. news conference is scheduled in Paddock Lake.
