Police officials are urging Twin Lakes residents to stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activity, after the department received four reported vehicle break-ins at two subdivisions Sunday.

The incidents, which occurred at Van Woods and Whispering Trails, included theft of a laptop and small amounts of change.

Adam Grosz, Police Chief, said the incidents involved four unlocked vehicles and believes the suspect or suspects might have rummaged through more.

“Often some of these crimes go unreported as citizens do not realize their vehicle has been gone through, or do not call the police if nothing appears to be taken,” Grosz said. “So we are assuming more than the four incidents likely occurred.”

Grosz offered more tips to keeping items safe aside from keeping vehicles locked.

Tips include parking the vehicle in a well-lit area, do not leave garage door openers, keys inside.

“Doing so could potentially give someone easy access to your house through the garage door,” Grosz said.

The police chief noted that while this is rare in Twin Lakes, people can take advantage of any opportunity given to them, if residents do not take needed precautions.

“We have had rashes of vehicle entries in the past, but these are the first reports of multiple vehicle entries we have received in 2016,” he said.

“The police department also wants anyone with information on these vehicle entries to contact the Twin Lakes Police Department,” Grosz added, noting they have not developed any suspects in the case.
