A 62-year-old man, who was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, was hospitalized Sunday afternoon when he drove into a brick wall, damaging the Twin Lakes’ Ace Hardware.

According to a Twin Lakes Police Department press release, the incident started when the driver left the parking lot of the BP gas station across the street, and careened toward the hardware store.

“(The driver) traveled at a high rate of speed across North Lake Avenue, nearly striking several motorists,” the release stated. “The vehicle continued across the Ace Hardware parking lot striking a pine tree and then hitting the front of the building.”

When officers arrived, they discovered the driver sustained head injuries and was slipping in and out of consciousness, necessitating the need for Twin Lakes Fire and Rescue.

The rescue squad transported the man to Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center in Lake Geneva, where his condition remains unknown, according to the release.

“Based on evidence gathered at the scene alcohol does appear to be a factor in this crash,” the release said. “The Twin Lakes Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident, the drivers name is not being released at this time.”
