A late surge of voters near poll closing time at the Twin Lakes Village Hall in the April 5 election was the cause of a reporting delay, according to election officials.

When polls closed at 8 p.m., there was a line of nearly two hours, according to Village Clerk Julie Harms.

Shortly before poll closing, Harms said the village still needed to cast 238 absentee ballots.

“There was no break in line to run any absentee ballots,” she said.

The Village Hall reported a 44 percent turnout, with 1,067 registered voters casting ballots for the Lakewood School Board election.

Numbers more than doubled in the uncontested Twin Lakes Village Trustee race with 2,299 and for the three positions on the Wilmot Union High School Board at 2,526 votes.

Harms said the last voter to cast a ballot in person was at 9:45 p.m.

According to the Kenosha County elections website, the Village of Twin Lakes was the last precinct of 114 to report unofficial numbers at 12:45 a.m.

There were no technical glitches on the voting machines, she said.
