Cassidy Weidert benefit slated at Bella Vita April 24

New Munster resident Cassidy Weidert has all the characteristics of a well-rounded 28-year-old woman.

The 2006 Westosha Central High School graduate participated in Lakeland Little League, attended Wheatland Center School and St. Alphonsus Grade School during her younger years.

However, Weidert, who obtained her cosmetology degree from Milwaukee’s Regency Beauty Institute, received a startling diagnosis in 2015.

Stage IV rectal adencarcinoma cancer left Weidert tired, according to her mother, Char Weidert.

“After numerous tests, and a trip up to Mayo Clinic, she has completed her ninth treatment of chemotherapy,” Char Weidert said.

“When she first saw the doctors, they thought there was no hope, but it is shrinking,” she added.

To offset medical costs associated with treating cancer, the family is hosting a fundraiser slated for April 24 at Bella Vita Banquet Hall in New Munster.

The fundraiser featuring a gun raffle, basket raffles, live band Genesee Depot would not have been possible without the help of Bella Vita and the Western Kenosha County community.

“As anyone knows who has dealt with cancer, the medical bills become very extensive,” Char Weidert said. “Our Western Kenosha County community has come to together with out-pouring of love, support and, most important, prayer.”

Char Weidert is grateful that new Bella Vita owners, Brian and Heather Boeckenstedt offered the family use of its building.

“We are so grateful for their generosity of donating their facility for the benefit,” she added.

Tickets to the benefit are $10. Bella Vita is at 34816 Geneva Rd., Burlington.
