Twin Lakes bank is robbed Monday

Twin Lakes Police and the FBI continue to investigate the robbery of the M and I Bank located at 508 N. Lake Avenue.

At 3:49 p.m. a white male about 6 feet tall, about 170 pounds walked into the bank wearing a royal blue coat with the coat’s hood pulled over the head to just above the eyes. He was also wearing blue jeans, white tennis shoes, dark sunglasses, red gloves and a dark color scarf covering his face.

He handed a bank teller a hand written note demanding cash. At no time did he imply or indicate he had a weapon. The man fled on foot. The teller complied, giving him the money in her cash drawer and he fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

Monday night Twin Lakes Police Chief Dale Racer said bank surveillance camera caught the man on tape from the time he entered. Currently law enforcement officials are checking to see if exterior cameras from surrounding businesses picked up the man leaving the scene.

Racer said the man left the handwritten demand note behind when he left the bank. “We’re not sure if he wrote the note then put the gloves on or wrote the note wearing the gloves but it’s one of the things we are checking on.”

Racer said it’s the first bank robbery in the five years he has served the community. There were two customers and about five employees in the bank at the time of the robbery, he said.

According to the FBI website, 982 commercial banks were robbed nationwide in just the first three months of 2011.

Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the Twin Lakes Police Department at (262) 877-2191 or Kenosha County CrimeStoppers at (262) 656-7333.
