Falcons win eight of nine games in DH sweep

Westosha Central junior Gilbert added to Showcase roster

Junior Garrett Gilbert helped Westosha Central to its eighth baseball victory in nine games, defeating host Hartford in a Saturday doubleheader.

Gilbert, a catcher, batted 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored in an 11-5 Game 1 victory and followed up with a 1 for 3 performance in the Falcons’ 11-6 Game 2 win.

Through 16 games, Gilbert has pounded out 22 hits and batted at a .415 clip with 16 runs knocked in and 12 runs scored.

Additionally, the catcher has drawn nine walks, boosting his on base percentage to .508.

On Saturday, Gilbert was added to the Prospect Showcase Roster, composed of 20 players in Wisconsin, according to Prep Baseball Report.

Meanwhile, after Westosha Central swept Saturday’s non conference doubleheader, the Falcons improved to 10-6 overall.

Game 1

The Falcons produced a four run first inning, added two runs in the third and fourth, before Hartford posted its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Along with Gilbert, senior Joe Morman had three RBI, hitting 2 for 3.

Other contributors were junior Trent Jones (1 for 5, three runs), junior Tanner Bykowski (2 for 2, two runs, two RBI) and sophomore Bryce Biedrzycki (2 for 3, three runs, RBI).

Biedryzcki notched a five-inning win, where he struck out two, walked three and allowed two earned runs on four hits.

Westosha Central 11, Hartford 6
Game 2

With Westosha Central ahead 3-0, Hartford diminished the Falcons lead with a run scored in the bottom of the third.

However, the Falcons responded with a run in the top of fourth inning, adding four in the sixth and three in the seventh inning.

Joe Morman knocked in four runs and collected a double in a 2 for 4 game, while Jones (2 for 3) and Biedryzcki (3 for 5) had three runs and a double each.

Bykowski went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and knocked in three runs.

Junior Austin Podella also chipped in, batting 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI along with a double.
