Be a Below Zero Hero: Special Olympic Polar Plunge Feb. 11

Be a Below Zero Hero. The Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) Polar Plunge winter fundraiser will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 with registration at the Brat Stop, 12304 75th St., Kenosha, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies and plunging will take place from noon to 3 p.m.

Support Special Olympics athletes by leaping into icy bodies of water across the state. Plungers consist of individuals and teams of students, law enforcement officers, business professionals, and families. Anyone is welcome. Too Chicken? No problem! Register as “Too Chicken to Plunge” and you can raise pledges, earn incentives, and stay dry.

 

History

In 1998, the Law Enforcement Torch Run International Conference was held in Anchorage, Alaska, where Wisconsin law enforcement and staff attendees participated and/or observed their first Polar Plunge event.

In March of 1999 Wisconsin held its first Plunge at Lake Onalaska with 315 Plungers raising more than $30,000. Since its inception in 1999, Wisconsin Polar Plungers have helped raise more than $12 million for SOWI athletes. Last year, 9,320 participants helped raise more than $1.9 million at 12 Polar Plunge venues.

 

Schedule

Friday, Feb. 10, early registration at The Brat Stop, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 11, registration and check-in at The Brat Stop, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Opening ceremony and plunging from noon to 3 p.m.

Post Plunge Party and family fun will take place at the Brat Stop from 2 to 7 p.m. with food, beverages and live music by The Kingfish.

Polar Plunge: No fees required at time of online registration. Collect pledges online or turn in at event registration.

Too Chicken To Plunge and Toss Your Boss: No fees required at time of online registration. Collect pledges online or turn in at event registration.
