Courtesy of a Kenosha Community Foundation Grant, Western Kenosha County Transit is offering free rides to Trevor’s The Sharing Center, an organization that serves low-income and underserved families.

The grant, launched in April, seeks to allow those in need to access services at the Sharing Center, according to Mobility Manager Starr Burke of the Kenosha County Aging and Disability Resource Center.

“The eligibility request is the request to go to the Sharing Center – it’s as easy as asking,” Burke said. “People in rural Kenosha County who need access to resources, support and food should not go without.”

The Sharing Center offers basic needs and empowers people in transition to independence and offers several services including a food pantry, clothing, household items, winter outwear, school supplies and senior dining services, according to a press release.

Executive Director Sharon Pomaville is appreciative of both the community foundation grant and partnership with the transit agency, noting the system has always responded to the Center’s needs.

“I really appreciate WKCT’s sensitivity to low-income family needs,” Pomaville said. “Each time I ask for assistance, they have (responded) in the most serving way possible.”

The grant comes as ridership demands are increasing, according to Pomaville, who said some residents are growing more comfortable with mass transit.

Anyone who needs services at Sharing Center can contact WKCT by phone at (888) 203-3498 to schedule their free ride.
