Central boys win at Borg, Lady Falcons second

Courtesy of three top finishes and numerous second-place honors, Westosha Central’s boys track won Friday’s Borg Invite in Delavan, edging Lakeside Lutheran by eight points.

Coming in first for the Falcons were senior Jacob Hebior in the 3,200-meter run, recording a time of 9 minutes, 58.56 seconds along with junior Hunter Huggins’ discus throw of 132-feet-2 inches and senior hurdler Conor LaRoche, who finished the 110-meter hurdles at 16.61.

LaRoche added second-place in the 300-hurdles (43.16).

Joining LaRoche among a slew of second-place finishers were junior Austin Kurylo in the 200 (23.24), Adam Aker in the 400 (54.61), Andrew Allen (600, 1:29.04), senior Matthew Holloway in the 1,000 (2:43.24) and Sam Keller in the 1,600 (4:57.18).

For the field events, sophomore Joshua Engberg took second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-06, junior John Capelli with a leap of 38-feet in the triple jump and senior Nathan Ellberbrock in the discus (118-02).

The 800-relay squad of Chris Trotter, Aker, Ndolo Nkaybo and Jonathon Huddleston notched second.

For the Lady Falcons, junior Amanda Sabourin captured the sole first-place finish in the discus (110-05).

Sabourin’s senior teammate Olivia Simmons took second behind Sabourin.

Among Westosha Central’s second place accolades was senior Sydney Rau, who cleared the bar at 10-feet for the third time in four meets, six inches shy of top finisher Danielle Schilling of Lakeside Lutheran.

Another second-place finisher was senior Hadlei Stanczak in the high jump (4-10).

The Lady Falcons distance runners of sophomores Mackenzie Maccaux (800, 2:37.31) and Meghan Capra (3,200-12:08.13) took second.

Rounding out the individual events was junior Julia Ziemelis, who was second in the 300-meter hurdles.

Additionally, all relay squads finished second.
