From the start until the end of the showdown between Westosha Central and Wilmot May 13, the Falcons’ energy and hard hits were too much for Wilmot to handle, as Westosha Central won a 12-8 slugfest.

The Falcons started with junior catcher Garrett Gilbert, who sparked a four-run first inning with a two-run double, and later scored on a Tanner Bykowski double.

Gilbert went 2-for-4 including a two-run home run, a double and a game-leading five RBI.

“Garrett has remained consistent all season long as far as coming up with hits in big situations,” said Falcons’ coach Jacob Morman.

Senior Joe Morman, who went 1 for 4, capped off the inning with a run-scoring single.

Wilmot diminished the Falcons lead to 4-3 in the top of the second inning, but Westosha Central continued to swing away, scoring twice in the third and fifth, and four in the fourth inning.

In the four-run fourth inning, the Falcons scored on the Gilbert home run, and a sophomore Josh Leslie two-run double.

Panthers starter A.J. Frisby, lifted after the fourth inning, received the loss and allowed eight earned runs, walked three, struck out three and allowed 11 hits.

Leslie finished with a 3 for 3 performance including two doubles, a run and two RBIs.

“Our entire team hit the baseball well today and a lot of guys came through in big spots,” said Jacob Morman, adding Trent Jones to the list of key contributors.

Jones, the leadoff hitter, finished 4 for 4 with two doubles and two runs.

Additionally, Bykowski went 3 for 3 including two doubles and four runs.

“Bykowski continues to be red hot at the plate,” Jacob Morman said.

The Falcons winning pitcher, freshman Austin Glidden, tossed five innings, struck out two, walked six and allowed three earned runs on four hits.

“Austin was pulled after the fifth inning because I liked how he had pitched after the second inning and wanted him to leave the game with confidence,” Jacob Morman said.

In relief, Dylan Hogan allowed four earned runs on three hits through 1 2/3 innings.

Wilmot’s Tanner Peterson batted 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI while Gunner Peterson knocked in three in a 1 for 3 game.

Additionally, Justin Paasch (1 for 4) scored twice and had a stolen base and Kyle Gendron went 1 for 2 with a two runs scored.

Westosha Central improved to 11-7 (9-4 SLC) while the Panthers dropped to 8-12 (5-9 SLC).
