Before Tuesday’s game against Elkhorn where four seniors were honored, Lady Panthers coach Pat Dopke penciled in all four in the lineup, catcher Alyssa Horn, outfielder Sam Schloegl, infielder Shauna Lass and Sawyer Wightman.

Along with the four seniors and a core a strong underclassmen, Wilmot Union High School shut down the Elks 4-0, but the victory was much bigger for Wightman.

Wightman, declared medically ineligible for the entire season, made a remarkable comeback with a 1 for 3 night at the plate.

The comeback follows nearly six months of recovery when she underwent major surgery on her shoulder, an area that plagued her for several years, and left the Ferris State University commit itching to return.

Currently, Wightman is only cleared to hit, but not take her customary position of second base.
Meanwhile, in the Lady Panthers’ shutout, the squad posted two runs in the third inning with a single by Montana Platts (1 for 3) and Riley Regnier triple.

Regnier, who went 3 for 3, led all Lady Panther hitters.

In the following inning, Wilmot added insurance runs with run-scoring singles by Hayli Richards and Schloegl.
Schloegl went 2 for 2 with a run scored.

The runs were all junior Sarah Hutchinson needed as she cruised through four innings, allowed one hit, struck out six and walked none.

Junior Kalyssa Koehn finished what Hutchinson started, pitching the last three innings, struck out three, allowed one hit and walked one.

Horn went 1 for 3 with a run scored.

The Lady Panthers improved to 12-10 (7-6 Southern Lakes Conference).
