Central girls three-peat in SLC track

Westosha Central notched its third consecutive girls Southern Lakes Conference title, courtesy of wins in two relays and three victories in field events in Tuesday’s track meet in Lake Geneva.

Junior Amanda Sabourin, who snagged a title in discus, was part of the winning 800-meter relay squad that included Twila Dovas, Madi Hansen and Jaden McKenna.

The 800-relay squad edged an Elkhorn foursome by more than four seconds.

For the 3,200 squad that included Julia Ziemelis, Mackenzie Maccaux, Lexi Carlson and Hayley Trecker, they outpaced another Elkhorn team by nearly five seconds.

Sabourin also placed second with Dovas, McKenna and Kylie Shane.

Meanwhile, Alex Reeves captured a title in the triple jump, and placed second in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Senior Sydney Rau, who vaulted to 10-feet in three of her last four meets, earned a conference title in the event at 9-feet-6 inches.

Finishing tied for second in the pole vault was Hansen, who also took third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Along with Rau’s title in the pole vault, she contributed to the second-place 1,600-relay team alongside Sabourin, Ziemelis and Shane.

Kurylo earned two titles for the boys squad

Junior Austin Kurylo took home two of five Westosha Central titles in Tuesday’s Southern Lakes Conference track and field championships held at Badger High School, placing first in both the 100-meter dash and the long jump, and there could have been three for senior Jacob Hebior.

In the 100-meter run, it was a contest of mere milliseconds, when Kurylo finished 1/100 second ahead of Badger’s Tias Larson, with Anthony Klein finishing third, 6/100 seconds behind Kurylo.

Hebior, who notched a top finish in the 3,200-run, finished second in two other distance events, losing by a narrow margin.

In the 800-run, Hebior recorded a time of 1 minute, 59.45 seconds – less than 2/10 of a second from Delavan-Darien’s Mik Patel.

For the 1,600-run, Hebior missed first place by 1/100 of a second, getting edged by Gustavo Gordillo of Lake Geneva Badger, who captured the team SLC championship.

Hebior’s senior classmate, Conor LaRoche, snagged first in 300-meter hurdles (42.65).

Junior Hunter Huggins won the discus event by a landslide when he edged Badger’s Akil Jackson by nearly 16-feet with a throw of 137-feet-5 inches.
