Bristol event touts family fun

Bristol Progress Days is set to kick off Friday with several returning events, along with an inaugural 5K and Family Fun Run/Walk, held at the Hansen Park Pavilion.

Progress Days, which runs July 8-10, features activities for people of all ages, according to the organization’s website.

“Whether it’s sports tournaments, carnival fun, kids’ activities, music, history or the parade famous for the candy rained down on its spectators, Bristol Progress Days has something for everyone,” the website stated.

Capping off the three-day event is a Sunday fireworks show.

In the inaugural 5K Family Fun Run/Walk, scheduled 7 a.m. Saturday, registered participants receive a t-shirt and winners will be awarded to the first overall male and female finishers in the 5K, according to a press release.

“All race participants and supporters are invited to stay for the day & visit over the weekend to enjoy softball games, volleyball tournament, kid’s games, live music, parade, great food and fireworks,” the release said.

Following the Friday banquet, where they will crown Miss Bristol and the Outstanding and Junior Outstanding Citizens, music group “4 Grand” will take the Beer Tent stage at 7 p.m.

Fastpitch softball tournaments are scheduled from Friday through Sunday. Also, a volleyball tournament is set for Saturday.

Opening the Saturday lineup are free children’s games at 10 a.m. with a pedal pull contest to follow at 11 a.m.

“In the Stix” expects to deliver a 7 p.m. performance in beer tent to conclude Saturday’s events.

Furthermore, a 12:30 p.m. parade starts the Sunday list of activities, with an auction to follow, held in the West Pavilion.
