When fire and rescue personnel arrive to emergency scenes that involve children, their comfort is a top priority, and a local 4-H group stepped up to help on July 7.

Courtesy of a Youth As Resources Grant, the Wheatland Willing Workers 4-H bought materials to create nearly 20 blankets, according to General Leader Lori Harpster.

“The blankets will be used during calls that have children involved,” Harpster said. “The blankets are all fun colors and have different designs on them.”

Harpster stated along with the fun colors, the warmth offers comfort during a difficult time.

“The blankets will be used to help comfort kids and make them feel safe while in the care of the rescue squad,” she said.

However, the project would not have been possible without the help of the YAR grant, she added.

“The club received a grant from YAR Program and with that we purchased the materials needed to make close to 20 blankets,” Harpster explained.
