Westosha Central High School held its first football contact day Thursday evening at the school, with a new challenge for the cheerleading squad, according to football coach Tyson Mengel.

In earlier seasons, the football team learned cheerleading routines coached by the squad’s members, but for the first time, the cheerleading squad participated in football drills.

“It is an opportunity for them to see what we go through,” Mengel said. “It’s fun.”

The cheerleading squad, who won last year’s state cheer tournament, completed receiving drills, learned small portions of the Falcons playbook, and other football conditioning routines.

WIAA rules allow five football contact days per summer, leading up to the first official day of practice entering the fall.
