With an anticipated road resurfacing project scheduled in the Village of Twin Lakes, Kenosha County Highway Department officials are reminding residents of lane closures and parking restrictions, according to Director Gary Sipsma.

The project, expected to start July 27, centers around two roads, South Lake Avenue from Main Street to Wilmot Avenue, and Wilmot Avenue from South Lake Avenue to East Lakeshore Drive.

“The project involves milling off two-inches of the existing asphalt surface and replacing it with two-inches of new asphalt,” Sipsma stated through an email sent to Village Administrator Jennifer Frederick, who sent the alert to reporters.

Consequently, travelers along the road need to be aware of road signs and expect short-term parking restrictions.

“Parking will not be allowed on the roads within the project limits,” the statement said. “We will be putting up temporary no-parking signs with dates indicating the days that parking will be restricted.”

“We intend to keep the roads open, but there will be lane restrictions during operations,” the statement added. “Temporary short term closures may occur if required.”

Short-term closures could affect transportation procedures at Lakewood School, which starts summer class Aug. 1, but District Administrator Joe Price is optimistic.

“It is just one of those things we have to deal with, but we are not too worried,” Price said.

While the Highway Department targets Aug. 5 for completion, it could change, dependent on weather.

“The schedule may be modified for a number of unexpected occurrence’s such as weather,” the statement said.

Price stated the school is prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.

“I am hoping they have it done when school starts Sept. 1, but if not, we will just have to adjust our bus routes,” he added.

Resurfacing is expected from July 27 through 29 and Aug. 1 through 5.
