Welcome to…Salem Lakes

breakingnewsBoth boards agree – a compromise we can all live with

The boundary agreement between the Town of Salem and Village of Silver Lake that will lead to a merger of both into a new village received unanimous approval by members of both municipal boards, held in separate meetings last night.

The one item remaining under negotiation until the last minute was the name of the new village. Both have agreed to call it the Village of Salem Lakes.

The next step is sending the signed agreement and a tape of the joint meeting that was held on July 6 to the state Department of Administration.

Then the wait for the ruling begins.

Should the state agree, the two shall become on on February 14 of 2017. The town board will be dissolved and the village board will be intact. The town board, along with village president Bruce Nopenz, will form a transition comittee.

In April, three village board seats and the village president position will be on the ballot. Three current village board members will not be up or election and maintain their seats until April 2018, when they must run again.

The full story will run in the August 5 edition of the Westosha Report

YAY….I just wish I was still around to see this. Lots of people have worked hard and diligently, fending off opposition that made no sense and came out the other side with a new village and services that are better for the residents. Way to go Salem Board and Silver Lake Board!!!
