Westosha Central junior Alyssa Hrncar has verbally committed to play softball for Division 2 University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Hrncar, a first-team all-state last year, confirmed her commitment with the Westosha Report Sunday.

Following a visit to the Parkside campus and meeting with Rangers coach Scott Wachholz, she opted for the the school over Concordia University St. Paul and a handful of Michigan-based colleges that checked in.

“I chose Parkside because I loved how it provided me a college campus feeling and meeting with the coach got me even more excited,” she stated. “The school was calling my name!”

The incoming senior, who tossed 116 1/3 innings last year, struck out 148 hitters and walked just 18.

Additionally, she blanked opponents in 12 games, and compiled 18 complete games for an 18-3 record.

Her contributions went beyond the mound, serving as the Westosha Central leadoff hitter, batting .448 with an OPS of 1.006.

While she has racked up stellar numbers her first three seasons for the Lady Falcons, she will enter her senior season with the same mindset, being the best in Kenosha County and making a state appearance.

“I hope to enhance my game and help our Lady Falcons become the best we can be in the county,” she stated. “We keep our goals the same and I hope we can all come together and rally to reach state again as it will be my last year!”

Furthermore, Hrncar, an honor student, has more than softball plans at UW-Parkside, where she is targeting a career as a Dietician.

“I saw Parkside had a great nutrition program so I was happy!”

The pitcher joins a long list of Lady Falcons expected to play at various colleges, starting with recent graduates Kayla Konwent, who will play at UW-Madison and Chy Onstad, a future UW-Green Bay athlete.

Furthermore, Elaine Andersen expects to play for Carroll University in Waukesha.

Along with Hrncar, fellow incoming senior classmate Kira Mickelson is a verbal commit to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Hrncar states that along with her teammates, she credits her coaches throughout the years, and her family for keeping her focused.

“I credit all my coaches, teammates, friends and family,” she said. “Too many to name honestly. Been in the sport since age six and have encountered such supportive people and dedicated coaches who’ve helped me along the way.”
