Tina Caldwell was one of many who enjoyed Summer Beats at Silver Lake’s Schmalfeldt Park Saturday.

While the 32-year-old Silver Lake resident sang Jewel’s “You Were Meant for Me” on karaoke, several others participated in other activities, including rides for children, musical performances, capped off by a fireworks display.

According to Village Parks Committee Chairperson Doug Randolph, the overall turnout was better than expected, considering the event is in its first year.

“This is the first year for this event,” Randolph said. “The turnout has been fantastic.”

Meanwhile, Mike Gentile of the Western Kenosha County Youth Football organization kept the grill fired up with several food items that went for sale at the concessions booth.

“It is nice to see the community come together,” Gentile stated. “It is a great time, good to see all the kids having fun.”
