Participating vendors increased, Chamber says

Overnight and early morning rain combined with humid temperatures diminished attendance at the Business in the Park and Car Show Saturday, according to Twin Lakes Area Chamber and Business Association Executive Director Marilyn Trongeau, but there was a slight uptick in vendors.

In the inaugural year of the Car Show in 2014, there were 32 entries and dropped to 12 last year, but had 14 arrive Saturday.

The weather, she said, plays a significant role in whether people want to showcase their vehicles.

“The weather hurt the car show big time, but these guys watched the radar, and they turned out,” Trongeau stated.

Despite low attendance, five of 14 entries received trophies in multiple categories, including Best in Show, Most Unique and from each era.

Receiving Best in Show was Jan and Dean Nau, 1971 Plymouth Cuda; Most Unique, Nova O’Reilly, Dragster; 1940’s, Russ Bettinger, 1941 Ford; 1950s-60s, Bill Foley, 1966 Ford Galaxie; 1970’s and newer, Kevin Rogers, 1970 Olds 442.

While Trongeau hoped for more, she states area car clubs attributed to people coming in.

“Some of them came from a Corvette Club, that is how people come, they hear it from others,” she stated.

As car enthusiasts showcased their vehicles, some vendors and local organizations reportedly enjoyed their time mingling with fellow Chamber members, including Pete Rzonca of the Twin Lakes Aquanuts.

“We are here for the community and proud to be a sponsor,” said Rzonca, whose organization appeared at the third annual event for the first time.

Entering next year, Trongeau has no plans to adjust the event, unless new ideas come forward.

“We are always looking for something that somebody is willing to do to better the event,” she said.

Other participating organizations were New Era Realty, Slades Corners Computer Repair, Athletico Physical Therapy, Sons of the American Legion, Aurora Prescription Dispensing Center, Costco Wholesale, Crafty by Nature, Lularoe by Abby Wilson and Walnut Ridge Candles by Kristine Blum along with Westosha Lakes Church.

Officials from the Twin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Police Department and Town of Randall Fire Department expect to present information to people and showcase their equipment.

Corrine Nordigan of the Community Library coordinated children’s activities.
