GIRLS TENNIS: Amundsons, Andersens help Wilmot defeat Central

WilmotLarge-webBehind two sets of sisters, Wilmot Union High School rolled past visiting Westosha Central in a Southern Lakes Conference tilt Thursday at the Panther Sports Complex.

The Panthers, who won 4-3, needed all four singles victories after dropping three doubles contests against Westosha Central.

Sophomore Bianca Andersen jumped to 13-1 in No. 1 singles following a two-set win against Falcons’ junior Stephanie Dopuch, who stands at 4-4.

At No. 2 singles, Bianca’s sister, Bella, edged Falcons’ sophomore Sara Backus, who dropped to 4-4, in two sets (6-3, 6-4).

Bella, a senior, improved to 2-2 in singles play.

The Amundsons, meanwhile, added victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

In a battle of freshmen at No. 3 singles, Wilmot’s Brynn Amundson downed Janell Gillmore (6-3, 6-0), and improved to a collective 3-6 at No. 2 and No. 3. Gillmore is 4-4.

Following a first set loss, Panthers senior Rylee Amundson bounced back, defeating senior Brantleigh Bannon (1-6, 6-2, 6-4).

Rylee’s win gives her a 5-2 in overall singles while Bannon stands at 3-2.

Central sweeps doubles competition
The senior duo of Alyssa Hrncar/Tori Salerno edged Wilmot seniors Kayla Potter/Sam Edmonds in two sets to improve to 6-2 at No. 1 doubles (6-1, 6-2).

Adding to the Falcons sweep on doubles were senior Michelle Belmont/junior Ashley Wells at No. 2, winning in straight sets against sophomore Maddie Lindeman/senior Grace Suitor (6-0, 6-2).

Following their No. 2 doubles win, Belmont/Wells is 6-2,

Katie Barningham/Brooke Wysiatko rounded out the Falcons doubles sweep in a win against sophomores Shauna Murray/Jordan Potter at No. 3 (6-1, 6-2).

Barningham/Wysiatko are 7-1 after Thursday’s victory.
