BOYS SOCCER: Krause/Cummings help Falcons avoid defeat

WestoshaCentral-webCourtesy of a senior Tyler Krause header goal, assisted by freshman Davin Cummings, the Westosha Central High School boys soccer team avoided a Southern Lakes Conference loss to visiting Union Grove Tuesday.

However, a Broncos penalty kick by Max Wagner in the second half left the game in a 1-1 stalemate at the end of regulation.

Falcons coach Jon Kao credited keeper Chase Erickson for withstanding a barrage of shots on goal after he allowed the penalty kick.

“Chase Erickson put in work to keep the game level,” Kao stated. “Chase made several catches that were worthy of wide receivers in the NFL.”

Along with Erickson, senior midfielder Trace Miller maintained control of the field, where he was in attack mode.

“(Trace) was a work horse this game even if his name didn’t hit the stat sheet,” Kao said. “He contained the opposing attack very well and was able to transition the ball into the attack.”

The deadlock, Kao stated, gives the Falcons a reason for optimism.

“Tonight was a promising match and another step in our journey towards excellence,” he said.
The Falcons, who are 0-1-1, host Burlington Thursday.
