Twin Lakes Library reopens Monday

By Annette Newcomb –Editor

It’s been a long time coming but patrons will find this new chapter for the Twin Lakes Community Library was well worth the wait when the Twin Lakes Community Library reopens on Monday, March 5, at 10 a.m.

The doors closed in September and soon after PODS, those white, free standing storage units, took over the parking lot at 110 S. Lake Avenue, and thousands and thousands of books, magazines, reference materials, DVD’s and more were carefully boxed, labeled and stowed away.

The library has almost doubled in size, from 3,800 sq. feet to 6,300 sq. ft. and along with the Subway restaurant, they are the only two tenants of the building. Walls went down, ceilings went higher, carpeting was laid, paint was applied, and several new restrooms were added, including a baby station in the new youth section of the library. There are now private meeting rooms, a break room for employees and much more storage than before.

The library has added a dedicated computer area, with nine new computers, free for all to use with a library card and a password. There is a two-hour limit on the computers. The traffic patterns have changed thanks to a new configuration of shelving and bibliomaniacs will find more breathing room in the stacks, making browsing much more relaxing then before.

The children’s area is tucked in a brightly lit area that has its own miniature chairs and tables, perfect for future art projects. The youth librarian will be stationed at the entrance to make sure little readers get the help they need.

Library director LeAnn Briese is quick to spread the praise around to the dedicate library staff, volunteers and workmen who toiled to bring the new library in fruition.

The Community Library Board signed a 10-year lease with building owner Dan Holian last fall.

The library will resume its regular hours: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.

The Twin Lakes/Randall Library is part of the Community Library that includes sister libraries in Salem and Silver Lake. With a library card, patrons can use all three libraries. To learn more log on to www.communitylib.org.
