BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Falcons start SLC slate 2-0

WestoshaCentral-webAccording to Wayne Schultz, the Westosha Central High School boys volleyball squad has exhibited strong teamwork, an asset that has been instrumental in the Falcons’ first two wins in Southern Lakes Conference history.

The Falcons, who edged host Union Grove High School Sept. 7 in three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-21), added their second victory against cross-town rival Wilmot Union High School Monday, when they produced a near identical score (5-16, 25-19, 25-21).

“(We had a) very good team effort,” said Schultz following Monday’s SLC contest. “Our young team is starting to grow and figure out competitive volleyball.”

As several newcomers worked to develop their craft, junior setter Connor Muff and senior outside hitter Drake Muhlenbeck paced the Falcons all-around effort.

Muff contributed a team-leading 26 assists, finished third with six digs, and added three blocks for Westosha Central on Monday.

As Muff set the tone, Muhlenbeck accumulated a team-leading 16 kills and eight digs, along with two blocks and two blocks.

Complimenting Muhlenbeck along the front row were junior Mason Welter (6 kills), sophomore Alex Salerno (5 kills) and junior Jason Olsen, who led the Falcons with five blocks.

Meanwhile, junior libero Jack Polick bolstered the Falcons’ defense, diving in for seven digs along with three assists.

Senior Parker Krumm pitched in two aces and had six digs.

Stats for Wilmot were not available.
