Authorities are classifying a vehicle fire, leaving one dead, as suspicious in the Town of Wheatland Friday.

The fire at the parking lot of Best Bargains Store, 6515 352nd St., started before 8 a.m., according to a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Along with the Sheriff’s Department, Town of Wheatland Fire and Rescue arrived to the scene, where they discovered a person still in the vehicle.

“Deputies observed that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames,” the release stated. “The subject in the vehicle is deceased.”

According to Sgt. Eric Klinkhammer, fire officials extinguished the vehicle “within minutes of arriving.”

Additionally, Klinkhammer said, detectives are at the scene investigating the fire.

“It is suspicious because we don’t know what happened,” Klinkhammer said.

He declined to state whether the person was a man or woman.
