BOYS VOLLEYBALL: Falcons stay unbeaten in SLC

The only team left for Westosha Central to beat in the newly formed Southern Lakes Conference is Racine St. Catherine’s, after the Falcons downed visiting Burlington Thursday in four sets.

The Falcons jumped ahead 2-0 against the Demons, with set wins of 25-16 and 25-12, before Burlington pulled the match within one, when they won 25-21 in the third set.

According to Falcons coach Wayne Schultz, the third and decisive fourth set, where they edged the Demons 26-24 to take the match were a challenge.

“The last two were very competitive and each could have gone either way,” Schultz said. “Both teams played hard and there was a lot of emotion from the players and the fans.”

Senior Drake Muhlenbeck led the Falcons charge, producing 22 kills along with nine digs.

While Muhlenbeck spiked the Demons, junior setter Connor Muff paced the offense, accumulating 48 assists, two aces and added three blocks.

Complimenting Muhlenbeck along the front line were juniors Mason Welter, who had three blocks, and Matt Bruzas with nine kills apiece.

Junior libero Jack Polick contributed defensively, where he dove in for 12 digs, and added five assists.

Pitching in seven digs were senior Parker Krumm, who added four aces, and sophomore Alex Salerno.

Brett Niederer rounded out the Falcons win with two aces.

Westosha Central improved to 3-0 in the SLC after Thursday’s win.
