The Wembers of Westosha Central High School along with Panthers’ Lauren Pryor played a role in Lake Geneva Badger’s second-place finish among 12 teams at Fort Atkinson High School’s Blackhawk Invitational Saturday.
Along with Westosha Central and Wilmot, Williams Bay and Walworth Big Foot are part of the Badger co-op.
Badger finished with 394 points, 36 away from meet winner Madison Edgewood.
But, the Badgers edged third place Baraboo by 53 points.
Badger took first in one of 11 events – the 200-yard medley relay squad of Falcons’ sophomore Eden Wember along with Cora Rafe, Katelyn O’Brien and Molly Dover – registering a time of 1 minute, 54.72 seconds.
The squad edged second-place Elkhorn by less than a second.
Additionally, Eden Wember contributed to the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay team of fellow Falcons sophomore Claire Koeppel along with Rafe and Theresa Van Schyndel.
Koeppel added fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
Individually, Eden Wember finished fourth in the 100- and 50-yard freestyle.
As Eden Wember contributed in both relays and single events, junior Elise Wember notched 10th in the 100-yard fly and teamed up with Koeppel and Verzal on the eighth-place 200-yard freestyle relay squad.
Contributions were not limited to the Wembers, however, with Wilmot Union High School junior Lauren Pryor along with VanSchyndel, Dover and O’Brien coming together for a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
Pryor finished ninth in the 100-yard fly, trailing Elise Wember by less than 1/10 second, along with an eight-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay team that included Falcons’ junior Rylee Kennell, Metta Divito and Emma Coltman.
Also, Kennell finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, an event Badger to placed three among the top five. Grace Gillingham took second while O’Brien notched third.
