Plane crashes near Westosha Airport

BREAKINGNEWS-webNo injuries reported, authorities said

A 72-year-old pilot from Illinois suffered no injuries after his 1969 Cessna 172 plane crashed near the Westosha Airport in the Town of Randall Tuesday.

According to a Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department news release, authorities responded shortly after 3 p.m. to the intersection of highways KD and C in the Town of Randall, where a plane reportedly crashed into a corn field.

The news release stated the plane developed engine problems, and when the Grayslake man could not execute a landing at the Westosha Airport, the plane crashed into a nearby cornfield.

“The pilot was not injured. The plane suffered moderate damage,” the release stated. “There were no injuries to persons on the ground and no buildings were damaged.”

The 72-year-old man was en route to Chicago Executive Airport from an airport in Burlington.

However, the release noted some damage to crops.

“At this time Deputies and rescue personnel are on scene and the Federal Aviation Administration will be contacted,” the release said.

The Town of Randall Fire Department responded to the scene.
