Hartnell Chevrolet, located at 7800 Antioch Rd in Salem, has partnered with the Friends of the Community Library (FOCL) to raise funds to aid the library.

“The week of October 16 to 22 is National Friends of Libraries week,” said President Marlene Goodson of the Friends of the Community Library. “We asked Mike Missurelli (owner) to run a promotion for only that week. But he generously offered to do this the entire month.”

During the month of October, Hartnell will donate $20 toward FOCL fundraising for the library for every test drive.

For every car sold, Hartnell will donate $50, up to $1,000.

October 18, FOCL is hosting a dinner that features Wisconsin author, historian and storyteller Jerry Apps as speaker at the Twin Oaks Country Inn, located at 30807 114th St. in Wilmot.

The soirée begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar with the family style dinner starting at 6 p.m.

The menu includes a house salad, bread and butter, baked chicken, roast beef, vegetable, mashed potatoes and gravy, vanilla ice cream and coffee.

The cost is $25 per person and reservations and payment is due by October 10. Find reservations forms on-line at http://www.communitylib.org/.

Completed forms and payments can be dropped off at either the Twin Lakes/Randall branch, 110 S. Lake Ave., or the Salem branch, 24615 89th St.

Meanwhile, Apps, the featured guest, was born and raised on a Wisconsin farm and presently serves as professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The author has published more than 35 books, many of them on rural history and country life.

Three of his stories were featured on the Public Broadcasting System, A Farm Winter, The Land with Jerry Apps and A Farm Story.

All three are accessible online at http://www.jerryapps.com/

The titles of some of his books include Wisconsin Agriculture: A History, One-Room Country Schools: History and Recollections and The Quiet Season: Remembering Country Winters.
