A week after playing into a scoreless tie, Westosha Central High School dented the win column against Wilmot Union High School, courtesy of a Bobby McNealy goal.

According to Falcons’ coach Jon Kao, the Falcons’ Oct. 4 1-0 win was an accomplishment, noting the team has won two of three games against the Panthers.

“This is the third time we’ve played Wilmot this season,” he said. “To come away with two wins and a tie against such a close rival is no small achievement.”

One of the wins came in a tournament, therefore, it did not count towards Southern Lakes Conference standings.

Following a scoreless first half, and a couple injuries, Kao had to shake up the formation and credited goaltender Chase Erickson’s play in the net.

“We had to rely on Chase Erickson to make some key saves to keep the game knotted,” he said. “Chase played an incredible game and had 10 saves on his way to a clean sheet.”

Entering the second half, the Falcons came together, and made a immediate statement with a forward Bobby McNealy goal assisted by senior midfielder Lucas Graveley in the 53rd minute.

While the Falcons’ Erickson shut down the Panthers offensive attack, Kao states it was not an easy task to maintain the lead.

“We had a couple more opportunities but Wilmot certainly poured everything they could into the final minutes of the game,” Kao said.

The Oct. 4 verdict gives the Falcons it’s first SLC win of season, improving to 4-7-4 (1-4-3 SLC), while the Panthers dropped to 3-10-3 (1-4-3 SLC).
