SOCCER ROUNDUP: Wilmot compiles back-to-back shutouts

WilmotLarge-webWilmot Union High School ended its boys soccer season on a high note last week, compiling back-to-back shutouts, one at Burlington and another in a non conference showdown with Kenosha Tremper.

At Burlington on Oct. 11, the Panthers received a first half goal from senior Tim Freeman, assisted by senior Jon Mendez.

Mendez later added a goal of his own in the second half, courtesy of a junior Anthony Poco assist.

The Southern Lakes Conference win improved the Panthers’ record to 2-5-2, finishing sixth among eight teams.

Two nights later, the Panthers added another 2-0 shutout against the visiting Trojans, after Poco and Freeman netted goals, both assisted by Mendez.

Wilmot, a No. 13 seed, opened the WIAA Division 2 regular season schedule at Monona Grove Tuesday.

Central goes 0-2
Westosha Central, a No. 12 seed that played at No. 5 Milton, lost their last two regular season contests.

The Falcons, who dropped a 4-1 decision at Waterford Oct. 11, were shutout Oct. 13, when Shoreland Lutheran netted two goals.

Westosha Central finished the season seventh in the SLC with a 1-5-3 record.
