Central girls snag title away from Badger

Senior Sheel Patel blazed all competitors at the Southern Lakes Conference meet Oct. 14 at Fox River Park.

Patel finished the race in a landslide, coming across the the finish line 13 seconds ahead of Waterford junior Josh Butscher, who registered in at 16 minutes, 54 seconds.

The next best runner for Central, senior Mason Hedrick, finished 12th, clocking in at 17:44, followed by junior Colton Greenhill’s 15th place finish at 17:49.2.

However, Wilmot Union High School collectively finished two points ahead of Westosha Central for fourth place, courtesy of senior Ryan Ott, who took 11th at 17:40, and sophomore Jordan Paulsen’s 13th place finish at 17:47.

Additionally, the Panthers received contributions from three sophomores, Kyle Diedrich (16, 17:50), Shawn Davis (24, 18:08) and Alex Wank (26, 18:13).

Scoring points for the Falcons were senior Trevor Silber (32, 18:47) and senior Mike Moseback (34, 18:53).

Courtesy of three finishes in the top 15, Westosha Central High School snagged the SLC title from defending champion Lake Geneva Badger, edging the Badgers by four points.

Junior Meghan Capra, who finished 42 seconds behind winner Erin Sorg of Delavan-Darien, took second at 19:43.39.

Along with Capra, Falcons’ freshman Heather Anderson notched fifth, beating out Badger runner Mia Trent by more than nine seconds.

Junior MacKenzie Maccaux, who took 13th at 21:25.04, edged Badger’s Maureen Clifford by more than five seconds.

Rounding out the Falcon contributors were senior Lindsey Kimpler (19, 21:47.74) and junior Chelsea Lamp (24, 22:16.14).

For Wilmot, freshman Tara Nopenz finished 10th at 21:14.09 to lead all Panthers, who finished last the meet.
