A Town of Burlington man reported missing to the Racine County Sheriff’s Department was found dead in a Town of Brighton marsh Saturday afternoon, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

Leonard Jagielski, 49, whose sport utility vehicle was found overturned in a pond died from drowning, the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.

Jagielski’s wife said she  reported him missing early Saturday. Friends who went out to look for him later called authorities when they discovered his vehicle submerged in a pond on County Highway B and Highway 142 in Kenosha County at about noon.

When Kenosha County Sheriffs deputies responded to scene, they found the vehicle submerged in the water, which was estimated at about three feet, according to a news release.

“Deputies broke out a window and did locate a deceased male subject inside the vehicle,” the release stated.

Preliminary reports noted the vehicle traveled southbound on Highway B, where it struck a berm and landed on the front end, which caused the vehicle to flip onto its roof in the water.

On scene, the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office awaited a tow company to remove the vehicle before making a positive identification.

Along with Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, the Dive Team was called to scene, in addition to fire officials from the Town of Paris in Kenosha County and Kansasville in Racine County.

Also, a Town of Burlington law enforcement official was on scene.

“Toxicology results are pending,” the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department stated in a press release. “The investigation is continuing.”
