While it is not the New Year’s ball drop, an event with a similar name organized by the Wilmot Union High School Marketing and Business Association could bring a cash prize of $750 to a lucky winner at Twin Lakes Country Club Nov. 13.

The public is invited to attend the event scheduled from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., during which the Twin Lakes Country Club plans to donate 10 percent of proceeds from food and beverage sales to the Wilmot MBA.

Vice President of Brand Management Lauren Christensen, a Wilmot sophomore, said the fundraiser brings together multiple community organizations including the Twin Lakes Fire and Rescue Squad.

“This is the first time we are holding this fundraiser,” said Christensen. “We are trying to engage the community more within our organization, and to build relationships with business partners.”

Money raised goes towards community drives, including Adopt a Family at Christmas, a new project called Boxes for Veterans and to support student trips to business competitions and educational conferences.

According to MBA Adviser Marissa Huff, people interested in winning the $750 have until Nov. 13 to purchase tickets at $10 apiece.

“Students have only two weeks to sell as many raffle tickets as possible,” said Huff. “We are hoping to sell at least 300 tickets for the ball drop event on Nov. 13.”

If you go…

When: Nov. 13 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Twin Lakes Country Club, 1230 Legion Dr.

The ball drop, Christensen said, involves matching a raffle ticket with a corresponding ball. All balls will be dropped off the top of a ladder truck provided by the Twin Lakes Fire Department.

“When it is time, all the balls will be dropped to reveal which balls goes in the cup, and is the winner of the grand prize,” said Christensen, who has participated in a ball drop with different organizations in the past.

Huff, who never experienced a ball drop, credits Christensen for her initiative and outreach to local organizations and businesses.

“Lauren has really stepped up and taken the lead in this project,” Huff said. “She ordered the tickets, met with staff at the golf course and the fire department to arrange everything.”

While Christensen said she is grateful for Twin Lakes Country Club pitching in, she is equally thankful to the Fire Department for contributing the use of the ladder truck.

“The Fire Department is donating their service for this event,” Christensen said. “We are very grateful.”

With community involvement, the MBA hopes to raise proceeds to help their annual Adopt a Family mission.

“The program assigns you with a family around the area that is in need and cannot provide their kids and themselves with gifts,” Christensen said. “It helps provide a true Christmas feeling for the families in need and we feel blessed to be able to help give back.”

Additionally, the MBA has pursued another endeavor, shipping care packages to veterans unable to make it home for Thanksgiving.

“Around Thanksgiving, we hope to put together boxes of basic necessities and some other things, such as cards and games, to send over to veterans and active military that will not be home during the holiday.”

Huff said the MBA has another goal – helping local food pantries and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
