Within the first five minutes of the first period, the Thunder netted two even strength goals, one from Nicholas Elsen, assisted by Westosha Central’s Matthew Perona, and the other came on a Max Maegaard goal assisted by Jackson Jones.

Ten minutes later, Faber, who finished with 25 goals a year ago, chipped in his first of the season, assisted by Wilmot classmate Christian Stoller to cap off the 3-0 first period.

After a Joey Trifone short handed goal assisted by Maegaard to start the second period, Germantown found the net, but Kenosha’s Jackson Jones responded with an even strength goal assisted by Chandler Giampetro to give the Thunder a 5-2 edge entering the third period.

Although Germantown opened the third with a score, Elsen (Trifone assist) and Maegaard (Elsen assist) added a goal each, before Germantown scored its third of the contest.

The Thunder, which finished 13-9 last year, play Stevens Point-Pacelli Friday at the Sheboygan Blue Line.

Penalties intensified in third
Both teams combined for 14 penalty minutes on seven infractions in the first and second periods, but the third period brought 11 penalties for a total of 25 minutes in penalty box.

Of all 11 penalties, five were for roughing along a penalty in tripping, hooking, elbowing, unsportsmanlike conduct and high sticking.

Additionally, Germantown’s Zack Fountain received a five-minute major for checking from behind.
