Donation to help veterans

After a series of fundraisers, Randall Consolidated School Student Council members raised $1,000 for Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization founded in 1975 to help needy people receive a service or therapy dog.

“Randall Student Council and the Veteran’s committee worked together to organize several events to raise money for this organization,” the school states in an email.

Following their Oct. 18 Culver’s night in Lake Geneva, the school held another event at the Burlington Culver’s on Nov. 29, with 10 percent of sales from each event going back to Randall.

Additionally, Randall students who brought a stuffed animal to school donated $1 for a “pay-to-play” event.

The school reports all three events brought in $953, with Randall Student Council donating the other $47 to bring the total to $1,000.

The students presented a check to Ron Balint, a puppy trainer and CCI representative Dec. 6, when he spoke to student council members.

The nonprofit organization, which offers trained assistance dogs, had been asked to earmark the $1,000 for veterans in need of a service or therapy dog.
