Silver Lake Village Trustee Dan Withers, who accepted a job outside Wisconsin, submitted his resignation letter to Village President Bruce Nopenz.

In addition to a job change, Withers missed three Silver Lake Village Board meetings in the last month, sparking questions.

Withers was appointed to fill a vacancy in June 2015, when Trustee Chris Willkomm resigned.

Withers was successful in his election bid in April 2016.

Nopenz told The Report that he hopes to appoint someone to fill the year left on Wither’s seat by the Dec. 21 board meeting.

The resignation letter is dated Dec. 13 and reads:

“Dear President Nopenz,
“I would like to take this opportunity to make an official statement as to why I have been absent from the board meetings over the past month. The cause of my absence is that I have been offered and have accepted a new job that has me working outside of Wisconsin.
“I am thankful and honored to have had the opportunity to serve the residents of Silver Lake. Though I remain a resident of Silver Lake, the demands of my new position prevent me from serving the residents in the capacity they deserve.
“For this reason, I have come to the opinion that my seat may best be filled by someone who can more reliably be present. With both yours and the board’s blessing, I would like to resign from being a trustee.

“Respectfully,

Daniel Withers”

The board refined the village purchasing policy in 2015 from budget-based to need-based. Withers used that change to reduce spending for maintenance repair and operations supplies from $1,110 a month to $260 a month, with an average annual savings of about $10,000.
