Public input sought in Hackmatack update

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has completed a two-year environmental assessment (EA) evaluating a proposal to establish the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, located a few miles south of Richmond on Route 31.

The agency will be hosting an open house on Tuesday, April 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lost Valley Visitor’s Center in Glacial Park, to request input from the public on four alternatives designed to benefit specific wildlife and plant habitats within the original study area.

Comments can also be sent through the Service’s Planning website by Friday, April 27. Log on to www.mccdistrict.org for more information or call (815) 338-6223.
