Job seekers are invited to attend several events in May at the College of Lake County Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington Street. These include a Job Seeker Event on Tuesday, May 2 and the Job Market-Place Job Fair on Thursday, May 17.
The JobSeekerEvent will be held May 2 in the lower level C Wing on the CLC Gray-slake campus. It is designed to prepare job seekers for the JobMarketPlace Job Fair on May 17.
It will include a resource fair and a career booth, staffed by career counselor Michele Kane, who will offer tips on how to work a job fair from 9 a.m. to noon. At an employer panel from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., human resource professionals from industries such as health care, retail, the federal government, higher education, hospitality and manufacturing will be available to answer questions about their hiring processes and provide tips on résumés, interviewing and effective follow up. In addition, a résumé review service will be offered from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
From 9:30 to 11 a.m., keynote speaker Jeff Garton will present “How the Job Finds You.” He will provide an overview of the next generation of job readiness training, the Jobseeker Success Mindset training, available online through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The course, which was designed by psychologists and career experts, teaches you how to create the mindset skills to persevere and perform well despite challenges posed by the difficult job market. Garton is the author of “Career Contentment: Don’t Settle for Any-thing Less” and has produced two series of guidebooks and audio programs used by trainers and career coaches, “The Employment Mindset” and “Recognizing Career Contentment.”

Job Fair May 17
The annual JobMarketPlace Job Fair on Thursday, May 17 will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Physical Education Center, Building 7, on the Grayslake campus. Participants can explore full-time, part-time, seasonal and professional job opportunities by meeting with more than 50 employers.
Job seekers are advised to bring plenty of résumés and dress to impress. Job seekers may view employers attending JobMarketPlace 2012 at www.collegecentral.com/jobmarketplacefair or www.lakecountyjobcenter.com.
