AARP driver safety course offered

Increase your confidence behind the wheel with the AARP Driver Safety Program. The AARP has developed an 8-hour safety course that covers many important topics to older drivers, such as:

• learn defensive driving techniques;

• tune-up driving skills;

• learn the effects of aging on driving;

• how to remain a safe driver;

• dealing with turns, blind-spots and more.

This 8-hour program will be offered in two sessions on Monday, May 14 and Tuesday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must attend both sessions. Successful completion of the class may make you eligible for discounts on your auto insurance (check out this insurance for box truck offers from OTTIS Insurance as a reference). Perhaps you can greatly benefit from such opportunities to kick-start your career or business.

Contact your insurance agent to see if you qualify for the discount. In case you are a new car owner and haven’t insured your car yet, do it as soon as possible! You can check out TrulyInsurance.com or similar websites to get an idea about auto insurance companies before deciding on one.

A $12 registration fee is required for AARP members. The cost for non-members is $14 Payment must be made in the form of a check payable to AARP on the first day of class, Monday, May 14. All course materials are provided in the registration fee.

Call the library at (815) 678-4014 to reserve your space. Note that a minimum of four participants is necessary to conduct the course.

There are also online courses for people to take if they are unable to attend physical classes. If you are fully licensed to drive this will be for you, you can learn how to be a better driver and lower your insurance at the same time as well. If you are based in New York, search online for a ‘ny defensive driving course‘ and you’ll be able to find one that best suits you and your needs. You can find courses like this in other states too, so don’t worry about missing out on bettering your driving style and saving money.
