Area communities to honor Memorial Day

Area communities will be observing Memorial Day on Monday, May 28 with a variety of services and processions. Join them in honoring U.S. veterans of all wars.

 

Antioch

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4551 are hosting a Memorial Day ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the post, 75 N. Avenue, in Antioch.

A service will take place inside, followed by free hot dogs and beverage. The community is invited.

 

Lake Villa

The Lake Villa Memorial Day Parade is set for 1 p.m. The parade begins at Palombi School, 133 McKinley Avenue and concludes at Lehmann Park. A memorial service will then be held at the park.

 

Richmond

The Richmond American Legion Post 253 extends an invitation to the public to their annual Memorial Day celebration at 10:30 a.m. on at Stevens Park, located at Route 12 and Broadway in Richmond.

 

Spring Grove

The Village of Spring Grove will host its Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. There will be a short procession from the Spring Grove Fire Department, 8214 Richardson Road, to Horse Fair Park, 8105 Blivin St., to honor the memory of soldiers who have fallen while serving the country.

A wreath will be placed at the memorial marker, a prayer offered, and the names of fallen military members will be read aloud, followed by taps and a salute to complete the ceremony. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Johnsburg

The Johnsburg VFW Post 11496 will host its Memorial Day ceremony and parade beginning with a Riverfront Opening Ceremony at 9 a.m. You can view the ceremony from the Chapel Hill Bridge and 7 Days Market river apron or from boats on the west side of the river. Flying aircraft are again part of these ceremonies

The Memorial Day parade will follow at 9:30 a.m. directly to the Johnsburg Community Center, 2315 W. Church St., via St. John’s Street, for the remainder of the Memorial Day program at the Armed Forces Flag Memorial.

Antique and military vehicles will be on display during the picnic and baseball game that follows. Free Hot Dogs and pop.
