McHenry County Bicycle Club celebrates 30th annual Udder Century Ride

      The McHenry County Bicycle Club invites bicycle enthusiasts of all ages to join them for an udderly good time at their 30th Annual Udder Century on Sunday, June 3 (rain or shine). Start and end the ride at Donley’s Wild West Town, 8512 S. Union Road, Union, Ill. Pedal along flat to rolling rural routes of 32, 50, 62, 75 or 100 miles through the dairy region of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

      All routes are clearly marked but maps and cue sheets will be available and are easy to follow.

      Enjoy Starbucks coffee before the ride. Take breaks along the way at rest stops to refresh and refuel with bagels, sandwiches, fruit, cookies, trail mix, power bars and energy drinks. After the ride, enjoy a gourmet pasta dinner (served from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) in Donley’s cow-lossal banquet hall. Then visit Donley’s Wild West Town (all included with the registration fee). Participants can also soothe their tired muscles with one of the on-site professional message therapists for an additional fee.

      Note: pre-registration closes at midnight, June 1. Registration on day of event begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 10 a.m. 100 milers must be on the road by 8 a.m. All riders must be off the road by 5 p.m.

      Riders must wear helmets and should carry a spare tube, pump and water. Riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.  Riders must obey all traffic laws, ride no more than two abreast and show courtesy to other riders and motorists.  SAG (support and gear) drivers will be patrolling all routes for illness,

injury and irreparable breakdowns. Proceeds this year will benefit the League of American Bicyclists, Wisconsin Bicycle Federation, Active Transportation Alliance, Chicagoland Bicycle Federation, Rails to Trails and Illinois Trails Conservancy.
