Amore earns Freshman Service Award

RB freshman Hannah Amore receives the Freshman Service Award from RB principal Tom DuBois.

Hannah Amore is the recipient of the 2011-2012 Richmond-Burton Community High School Freshman Service Award.

The project closest to Amore’s heart is Petyon’s Promise.

As Amore explains, “In 2006, Peyton’s Promise began as a reaction. Then eight-year-old, Peyton Medick had to a special on ABC’s 20/20. The particular show highlighted a harsh reality in which a kindergarten boy, Ivan Stevens, knew his letters, colors and numbers, but didn’t know what the three meals of the day were. Surprised to learn that there were families like that in her own area, Peyton took the news as a call for action.”

Since the creation of Peyton’s Promise, Peyton has lead schools, businesses and organizations in raising over 70 tons of food for local pantries.

“One in six Americans will go to bed hungry tonight. Peyton’s Promise truly believes everyone has a right to food. This is not a privilege,” explained Amore.

Peyton’s Promise continues to expand with a sincere hope that more Americans will do their part. The efforts of Peyton’s Promise have branched out to include more pantries and more ways to stifle growing hunger. Make a promise yourself.

“I wanted to help so I brought Peyton’s Promise down here to Illinois and became an advocate,” Amore said.

Peyton has never taken credit for collecting the food, but given credit to each and every student who has participated in a donation, soup can work out or food drive. Peyton would like to help other students to speak to their schools about the problem of local hunger, explained Amore.

“If you would like more information or what to help you can contact me at [email protected] or you can contact Peyton herself at [email protected] or www.peytonspromise.org.
