Summer’s not waiting…sign up for a rec class!

In conjunction with the Village of Richmond and Burton Township, the Village of Spring Grove has announced the following summer recreation classes:

Archery: July 12 to Aug. 9, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., 9 years and up. Midwest Cimarron Archery, 9201 Main Street, Richmond. Fe: $110/$130 nonresident.

Bull’s eye. Join the Archery class and learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. Archers will spend time learning about equipment, shooting at targets and par- ticipating in archery-based activities.

All equipment will be supplied by Cimmarron Archery. This class will be taught by a certified instructor who will teach students at an individual level.

Pre-Kyuki-do: Session 2, Tuesdays, June 19 to July 24, 4:10 p.m. to 5 p.m. Session 2, Fridays, June 22 to Aug. 10, 9:40 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. 6 years and up. Spring Grove Flying Dragons, 11622 Route 12, Fee: $100/$120 nonresidents.

This summer martial arts program will focus on confidence, leadership, basic kicks and punches, self-defense and stranger awareness. Students are asked to wear comfortable clothing; however, uniforms will be free when registering through the recreation brochure. Come join the fun.

Pottery classes: Fridays, June 21, 22 and July 20, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Carriage House Gallery, 2110 Main Street, Spring Grove. Fee: $65/$85 nonresident.

Hand-building adventures with clay. It’s fun and ok to get your hands dirty. Creative and educational. All materials included.

Safety Camp: July 9 to 13, 9 a.m. to noon, 10 years and under. Spring Grove Police Department, 7401 Meyer Road. Registration deadline: June 25. Fee: no charge.

Safety Camp is designed to promote safety values and foster awareness. This camp will include 911 use instruction, Stranger Danger, suspicious situations, bicycle and skateboard safety, how to identify a crime, fire and safety rescue, outdoor safety.

Horseback riding Summer Camp Sessions: June 18 to 22, July 9 to 13 and Aug. 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 7 to 17 years old. Krussell Stables, 7105 E. Tryon Grove Road, Richmond. Fee: $375/$395 nonresident.

Horse Lover’s Summer Riding Camps are a perfect introduction for children into the wonderful world of horses. The camps are also great for children who are already take riding lessons.

The camps provide parents with an affordable experience for their children that is safe, active, healthy and educa- tional.

Family Fishing Day: Saturday, July 7, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Bring the family. Hatchery Park, 2314 Hatchery Road, Spring Grove. Fee: no charge. Registration is not required but is appreciated.

Enjoy a fun-filled day of learning how to bait a hook, cast a line and catch a fish at the newly renovated Hatchery Park.

Grab a racket and come learn to play tennis. No need to worry about the weather–lessons are taught indoors. Instruction will be directed to providing students with a foundation of technique, strategy and a better understanding and appreciation of the game.

Horseback riding is an excellent athletic and recreational activity encouraging children and adults to improve their fitness level through improved balance, posture and strength while riding a horse.

Students will learn how to approach, lead, mount, dismount, groom and tack a horse. They will also learn the gaits of walk and trot. Students will learn to post on the correct diagonal and do workouts, in addition to learning how to canter. Students are responsible for assisting in grooming and tacking horses before and after the riding lesson.

Junior Golf Clinic: 7 years and up. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Session 1–June 12 to 21; Session 2–July 10 to 19; Session 3–July 31 to Aug. 9, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pro-Circle Golf, 1810 U.S. Highway 12, Spring Grove. Fee: $90/$110 nonresident. Registration deadline: one week prior to start.

This clinic will give students ages 7 and older six hours of golf instruction from a PGA professional. Lessons will be held on both the range and around the green.

Children will learn techniques, skills and etiquette in this clinic. They will also receive instruction from the “Explainer,” a revolutionary training aide. End-of-the-session pizza party and Pro-Circle hat included.

Junior Golf League: Entering third grade through high-school. Wednesdays, July 11 to Aug. 1 (rain date: Aug. 8). Sixth grade to high school: 8 a.m. to noon; third to fifth grades: 8:45 a.m. to noon. Hunter Country Club, 5419 Route 173, Richmond. Fee: third to fifth grade, $100/ sixth grade to high school, $100/nonresident $120. Registration deadline: July 2.

This league will consist of a fun game of the day and different activities to make the sport of golf both fun and interesting to the participants. Third to fifth graders will play six holes each week, while the older group will play a full nine holes.

Each player will need his or her own golf clubs. Instruction will be given in golf etiquette and some rules of the game. Recreational lessons during the league, offered by Pro-Circle Golf, is highly recommended. End-of-the-session pizza party included.

Adult Golf Clinic: High school and up. Wednesdays, June 13 to27, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pro-Circle Golf, 1810 U.S. Highway 12, Spring Grove. Fee: $90/$110 nonresident. Registration deadline: one week prior to start.

This evening adult golf clinic will teach the basics of golf in a group setting. Techniques will be taught both at driving range and around the green.

Ladies Golf Clinic: High school and up. Thursdays, June 14 to 28, 11 a.m. to noon. Pro-Circle Golf, 1810 U.S. Highway 12, Spring Grove. Fee: $90/$110 nonresident. Registration deadline: one week prior to start.

This morning ladies golf clinic will teach the basics of golf in a group setting. Techniques will be taught both at driving range and around the green. Come enjoy a morning of fun and relaxation.
