Pike River Rendezvous os Aug. 3-5

More than 300 re-enactors will be encamped on Simmons Island from Friday, Aug. 3 to Sunday, Aug. 5 for the 15th Annual Pike River Rendezvous. The public is welcome to explore the rendezvous from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Step back in time when Native Americans and fur traders gathered to exchange goods and services and to celebrate. Talk with costumed re-enactors about what life was like at a rendezvous during the fur-trading era. Learn about the crafts and trades of the time through demonstrations. Watch musical entertainment, juggling acts and pirate battles on the beach. Plus, period foods, snacks and souvenirs will be available from vendors.

The Laughing Fox Tavern and Family Activities Area are open Saturday and Sunday. Children and adults can take part in hands-on games, do period household chores, make beaded arrowhead or bear claw necklaces and create corn husk dolls.

The Pike River Rendezvous is located on Simmons Island (50th Street at Kenosha’s lakefront). Free parking is available at Kennedy Park (40th Street and 5th Avenue). Park your car at Kennedy Park and climb aboard a horse-drawn wagon for shuttle service to Simmons Island.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
