Heart of Gold Charity Golf Tournament set for Aug. 4

Heart of Gold Charity Inc. is set to hold its sixth annual golf outing on Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Twin Lakes Country Club, 1230 Legion Drive, Twin Lakes.

Registration is at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start (four person scramble) at noon. Dinner, music, refreshments and silent auction begin at 5 p.m.

Since 2008, Heart of Gold Charity has delivered 345 gift bags to new heart families at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW); awarded $22,000 in scholarships to highly qualified high school seniors pursuing a career in medicine; donated $14,000 to the Herma Heart Center for cardiac research; and $7,000 to the Ronald McDonald House.

The cost is $95 per person, which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, brat and beer lunch, dinner, silent auction, raffles, and live band with dancing. For those choosing to come just for the dinner and dancing, the price is $25. Team membership is $380.

Forms can be downloaded on the charity website, www.heartofgoldcharity.org.

Individuals can also participate through hole sponsorships or donating to the silent auction. Contact Rich Petska at (815) 790-1299 for more details on how to sponsor a hole or donate to the silent auction. Space is limited; deadline is Friday, July 27.

For Braden

Rich and Stephanie Petska founded Heart of Gold Charity in honor of their son, Braden, who passed away in 2009, from a sudden heart arrhythmia. Up until then, he had been a thriving toddler loving life while living with a very serious and rare heart defect, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

The mission of their non-profit organization is to facilitate and provide resources for families dealing with the overwhelming effects of congenital heart defects.

Since the Petska’s know first hand how much support is needed emotionally and financially to endure a lengthy hospital stay, Heart of Gold Charity has worked to provide families a gift bag of necessities and supplies during their hospital stay at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

Heart of Gold Charity has also established yearly medical scholarships for high school seniors who are outstanding scholars and citizens interested in pursuing a career in medicine or nursing.

Additional money will be used for donations for cardiovascular research and for treatment centers such as Herma Heart Center at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.  Yearly donations are also made to the Ronald McDonald House of Milwaukee.
