County worker killed in Town of Troy

An employee of the Walworth County Department of Public Works was killed while on the job Monday morning in the Town of Troy.

The employee was struck by a county public works vehicle while working on County Road J on July 23 at about 9:44 a.m., according to a news release from County Administrator David Bretl.

Walworth County Public Works crews were chip sealing the road when the incident occurred.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Town of Troy Fire Department, East Troy Rescue, and Village of Mukwonago Fire and Rescue, as well as Milwaukee Flight for Life, responded to the scene.

“Despite the best efforts of the first responders, the employee died at the scene,” according to the news release.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, assisted by the Walworth County Sheriff’s office, is currently investigating the incident.

The names of the employees’ involved are not being released at this time.

“All of us in Walworth County government are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our condolences and prayers to the family,” Bretl said in the news release.

During a phone interview Monday, Bretl said he believed it was the first incident of this kind in the county’s history.

“It’s a terribly sad day for the family and the county,” he said.
